Moonee Ponds Bowling Club - Est 1891.
The Moonee Ponds area now enveloped by Queens Park was originally a swampy forested area used by traveller's as a rest area on the way to and from the goldfields.
Work was commenced in 1890 to drain the swamp, the resultant work led to the discovery of good building sand and gravel.
The sale of these materials provided sufficient funds to establish and develop a park reserve which was to include gardens and a lake.
Having such a venue in a central location a number of residents approached the council with regard to providing bowling greens and a pavillion.
As a result, after council granted approval for the works, the Moonee Ponds Bowling Club was established at a meeting in the Moonee Ponds Hotel, on the 4th of June 1891
In rapid time, on the 11th of October of the same year, the greens were opened and competition commenced.
The Moonee Ponds Bowling Club provides a great family environment and is home to around 150 social and bowling members.
The club is open to the public and new members are welcome to join and enjoy the benefits of our facilities..
We host Tuesday and Saturday Pennant Teams all of whom play with the great pride, spirit and culture that has built up over the period of the Club's existence.
